Madurai: On his first day in office, Madurai corporation commissioner Gaurav Kumar conducted inspections across the city, focusing on drinking water supply, sanitation, public health facilities, and food preparation centres.
Initial Inspections at Sanitation Division
The commissioner began with a visit to the sanitation division office at K Pudur (ward no 10), where he reviewed employee attendance records, staff strength, and office registers. He also inspected drinking water distribution under the Mullaperiyar Combined Drinking Water Scheme in K Pudur, Lourdes Nagar, and Surya Nagar.
Interaction with Residents
During the visit, Kumar interacted with residents and sought feedback on the regularity of water supply and door-to-door garbage collection by sanitation workers, according to an official release. At Amma Unavagam in K Pudur, he reviewed the quality of food served to the public and inspected food preparation and storage areas. He instructed staff to maintain cleanliness in kitchens and storage spaces, the release added.
Visit to Urban Primary Health Centre
The commissioner later visited the corporation-run urban primary health centre in the area and reviewed patient footfall, medicine stocks, childbirth services, maternal and child healthcare, staffing levels, and drinking water and toilet facilities.
Inspection of Food Preparation Centre
In Nelpettai, he inspected the food preparation centre supplying meals to corporation school students under the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme. He reviewed ingredient quality, food stocks, and hygiene practices.
Conclusion of Inspections
Kumar concluded the day with an inspection of the Vellaikkal solid waste management centre in Avaniyapuram and reviewed ongoing operations there.
