Madurai District Observes 77th Republic Day with Grand Celebrations
The 77th Republic Day was commemorated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor across Madurai district on Monday. Government offices, schools, and various institutions organized a series of events to mark this significant national occasion, featuring the unfurling of the national flag, vibrant cultural programmes, and impressive parades.
Deputy Mayor Leads Corporation Celebrations at Arignar Anna Hall
At the Madurai Corporation's Arignar Anna Hall, Deputy Mayor T Nagarajan presided over the flag hoisting ceremony. The event was highlighted by captivating cultural performances presented by students from corporation schools, showcasing their talents in dance, music, and drama. Following the performances, Nagarajan distributed prizes to the participating students, recognizing their efforts and contributions.
In a special gesture, two drivers who had served the civic body for an impressive 20 years without any accidents were honored. Each received a four-gram gold coin and a certificate of appreciation for their exemplary service and dedication to safety.
Recognition for Outstanding Officials and Students
A total of 125 government officials who demonstrated exceptional performance in their duties during 2025 were felicitated with certificates of appreciation and awards by the deputy mayor. Additionally, students who achieved success in sports, arts, and cultural competitions at both the national and state levels were presented with certificates of appreciation and mementoes, encouraging their continued excellence.
In his address, Deputy Mayor Nagarajan reflected on the sacrifices made by freedom fighters, paying tribute to them and their families. He extended warm Republic Day greetings to corporation officials, council members, and all attendees. The event was attended by Education Committee Chairman Ravichandran, Deputy Commissioner Jainulabdeen, and other senior corporation officials.
Railway Division and Schools Join the Festivities
Similarly, the Madurai Railway Division celebrated the day with Manager Shri Om Prakash Meena unfurling the national flag. The celebrations included a parade by Railway Protection Force personnel and students, cultural programmes performed by railway school students, and an engaging dog show by the RPF, adding a unique element to the festivities.
Schools across the city also participated actively in the Republic Day celebrations. At Dr T Thirugnanam Primary School, students organized cultural programmes and created posters to express their patriotism. In Madurai East Union, the celebrations at LKP Nagar Government Middle School were led by former panchayat president Nagalakshmi, featuring a quiz competition, sapling plantation drive, and cultural performances by students, emphasizing environmental awareness and community spirit.
The day served as a reminder of India's democratic values and unity, with Madurai's diverse events bringing together officials, students, and citizens in a collective expression of national pride.
