Maharashtra Legislative Council elections are approaching, but former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has not yet made a decision on whether his party will contest the polls. The Maha Yuti alliance, comprising the BJP, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and the Sunetra Pawar-headed NCP, is poised to win eight seats in the upcoming elections.
Seat Distribution Among Allies
According to sources, the BJP will contest five of the eight winnable seats, while the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde will field candidates for two seats. The remaining one seat will be contested by the NCP under Sunetra Pawar's leadership.
Uncertainty in the Opposition Camp
On the other side, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which includes Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT), the Congress, and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP faction, is yet to finalize its strategy. Thackeray's indecision has added to the uncertainty within the opposition ranks.
The Legislative Council elections are crucial for both alliances as they seek to strengthen their positions in the state's upper house. The Maha Yuti aims to consolidate its majority, while the MVA hopes to prevent a sweep by the ruling coalition.
Political analysts suggest that the outcome of these elections could have implications for the stability of the state government and the balance of power in Maharashtra politics.
