Mamata Banerjee Slams PM Modi's Silence on Pakistan's Alleged Threat to Kolkata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning his silence regarding a recent statement by Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who allegedly threatened to target Kolkata. During a rally in Nadia's Bethuadahari, which shares a border with Bangladesh, Banerjee demanded the Prime Minister's resignation, accusing him of failing to address the security concern.

CM Questions PM's Inaction and Calls for Resignation

"We do not seek enmity with any nation, but why is PM Modi remaining silent when Pakistan's defence minister declares that Kolkata will be targeted?" Banerjee asserted. "He did not mention this even once during his rally on Sunday. Why has he not pledged to take strong action against such threats?"

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief further warned, "If the people of Bengal are targeted, Bengal will target Delhi. We will not stay quiet if someone threatens to attack Kolkata. You remained silent because targeting Bengal is convenient for you, but you lack the courage to respond to the Pakistani minister. You should resign."

Banerjee Highlights Border Security Failures

Expanding her critique, Banerjee addressed Prime Minister Modi's recent comments in Cooch Behar about rampant infiltration. "He should be ashamed. The borders are under his government's control, and the home minister is responsible for the central forces guarding them. If infiltrators have entered India, it is your failure. You must resign first," she stated, emphasizing the central government's accountability for border security lapses.

TMC Leaders Unite in Condemnation

TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee also condemned the Centre's response to the Pakistani threat. Speaking at a rally in Malda, he said, "Two days ago, Pakistani minister Khwaja Asif threatened to attack Kolkata. PM Modi is silent, Home Minister Amit Shah is silent, and so is the Defence Minister. I have written Khwaja Asif's name on paper. The day a Mamata Banerjee and INDIA bloc-led government assumes office in Delhi, we will teach Asif a lesson. We will enter his home and strike."

This unified stance from TMC leadership underscores growing political tensions over national security and regional safety concerns in West Bengal.
