Man arrested with brown sugar worth Rs 15 lakh in Chatra

A man was arrested with 30.31 grams of brown sugar from a forest in Bhurkunda under Itkhori police station limits in Chatra district on Thursday. The accused has been identified as Ashok Paswan, a resident of Mayadih village under Gidhaur police station limits in the same district. The seized contraband is valued at approximately Rs 15 lakh, according to police officials.

Details of the operation

DSP headquarters Sunil Kumar Singh stated that a police team was formed based on a tip-off received by Superintendent of Police Animesh Naithany about an impending drug deal in the forest area along Chatra Road. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the team laid a trap and apprehended the suspect at the scene. The brown sugar was recovered from a packet in his possession. Additionally, a mobile phone allegedly used in the drug trade was seized.

Legal proceedings

An FIR has been registered at Itkhori police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway, Singh added.
