A tragic incident occurred on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway on Tuesday, where a 23-year-old man was burned alive in his car following a collision with a pick-up van allegedly being driven on the wrong side. The accident took place near the interchange for the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
Details of the Incident
Jagdish Vaghela was driving the car with six members of his family as passengers. As he approached the interchange, a pick-up van came in reverse and rammed into his vehicle. The impact severely damaged both cars, which soon caught fire.
Escape and Rescue Efforts
The driver of the pick-up van fled the scene. Vaghela's family members, including three children, managed to escape the burning car. However, Vaghela's legs became trapped under the steering wheel, preventing him from getting out. He called for help, but bystanders were helpless as the fire quickly engulfed the entire vehicle.
Fire brigade personnel arrived at the scene and extinguished the flames. Vaghela was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival. Three family members sustained injuries to their legs and hands.
Background and Investigation
The Vaghela family originally from Bhavnagar had been staying in Mehsana for work. Bhadarva police have registered a case against the pick-up van driver and have initiated a search for him.
