A 40-year-old man collapsed and died at Panjapur bus stand in Trichy on Thursday while on his way to Sivaganga to cast his vote. Police identified the deceased as K Umeshwaran, a resident of Chinna Unjanai near Devakottai in Sivaganga district.
The deceased worked as a welder in Chennai and had a history of heart ailments for which he was undergoing treatment. On polling day, Umeshwaran was traveling from Chennai to his hometown via Trichy to exercise his franchise. After arriving at the Panjapur bus terminus around 11 a.m., he developed severe chest pain and died on the spot.
E Pudur police sent the body to MGMGH Trichy for autopsy. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway.
