Mayawati Demands Thorough Probe into Ram Mandir Fund Theft
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has called for a comprehensive investigation into the alleged theft of funds meant for the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. She emphasized that no individual involved in the misappropriation should be allowed to escape accountability. The demand comes amid similar allegations of financial irregularities at the Badrinath Temple in Uttarakhand.
Context of the Allegations
The Ram Mandir trust, which oversees the construction of the temple, has been accused of mishandling donations collected from devotees. Reports suggest that a significant portion of the funds may have been diverted. Mayawati drew parallels to the Badrinath Temple case, where the temple committee faces charges of embezzlement amounting to crores of rupees. According to sources, the Uttarakhand police have registered a case against the Badrinath Temple officials for alleged fraud.
Mayawati’s Statement
Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Mayawati said, “The theft of funds meant for the Ram Mandir is a serious matter. A thorough probe is needed to ensure that those responsible are punished. The same applies to the Badrinath Temple case. The public has a right to know how their donations are being used.” She urged the Uttar Pradesh government to take swift action and ensure transparency in the investigation.
Political Reactions
The BSP chief’s remarks have sparked a political debate, with opposition parties demanding a judicial inquiry. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has dismissed the allegations as baseless. However, Mayawati insisted that the truth must come out, warning that such incidents erode public trust in religious institutions.
Impact on Devotees
The allegations have caused concern among devotees who have contributed to the Ram Mandir fund. Many are demanding a detailed audit of the trust’s accounts. The trust has denied any wrongdoing, stating that all funds are properly accounted for. Nevertheless, the controversy has highlighted the need for stricter oversight of religious trusts.
