Lucknow: Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to people to adopt austerity measures, BSP national president Mayawati on Tuesday said it proves that the crisis in front of the country is not limited to petroleum products, but the economic crisis will also deepen, affecting the lives of crores of people.
"There is a serious apprehension that the crisis situation may continue," she said. In a post on X, Mayawati said that uncertainty over the war waged by America and Israel against Iran has raised concerns over the energy crisis and foreign exchange reserves. "In such a situation, the Prime Minister's appeal also gives rise to serious apprehensions regarding the continuation of the crisis," she added.
Taking up the cause of the poor and weaker sections of people, Mayawati said that the central and state governments should act proactively to support people who toil to make a living. "After being severely hit by the Covid pandemic, crores of people in the country are facing a crisis daily. They have little left to lose or exercise restraint upon," said the former chief minister.
The BSP supremo's remarks come at a time when the government is urging citizens to practice austerity in the face of global economic uncertainties. Mayawati's statement highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the common man, particularly the economically disadvantaged sections, who are still recovering from the impact of the pandemic. She emphasized that the government must take concrete steps to alleviate the suffering of the masses rather than merely appealing for restraint.
