MCD House Descends Into Chaos Over NEET Paper Leak Protests
MCD House Chaos Over NEET Paper Leak Protests

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House meeting on Monday witnessed chaotic scenes as councillors from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress staged protests over the NEET paper leak issue. The session was marked by sloganeering and symbolic demonstrations, forcing the House to be adjourned twice — first for 15 minutes and later for 30 minutes.

Protests and Symbolic Displays

AAP councillors were seen waving posters depicting cockroaches and shouting slogans, while Congress councillors wore garlands made of Melody toffees as a mark of protest. The opposition members targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the NEET paper leak and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. AAP alleged that the BJP had refused to allow a discussion on the issue in the House.

Leader of Opposition's Remarks

Leader of Opposition in MCD, Ankush Narang, accused the BJP of repeatedly failing to prevent NEET paper leaks, which he claimed had ruined the future of lakhs of students. He alleged that the saffron party was avoiding accountability by not allowing a debate on the matter.

Agenda Items Postponed

Amid the disruptions, most proposals on the agenda were deferred, except for two key items. These included the construction of conventional underground multi-level parking facilities at New Friends Colony, Jangpura, and Kalkaji in the Central Zone. Additionally, a proposal to assign the work of licence inspectors to sanitary inspectors in their respective wards was also postponed.

Mayor's Press Conference

After the proceedings, Mayor Pravesh Wahi addressed a press conference and slammed the AAP. He alleged that AAP councillors were supporting a social media campaign aimed at creating disorder, while BJP councillors wanted to discuss civic issues such as sanitation and drain cleaning. Wahi stated, "This clearly shows that AAP's intention was to disrupt the functioning of the House."

Development Funds Released

The mayor informed the House that development funds amounting to Rs 50 lakh each had been released to all councillors. He said the funds would help accelerate development works in various wards, including drain construction, road repairs, strengthening sanitation arrangements, and other civic projects.

Discussion on Drain Cleaning Proposed

Wahi further stated that discussions on key issues, such as drain cleaning in Delhi, had been proposed during the House meeting, but AAP councillors continuously disrupted the proceedings, preventing any constructive debate.
