Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday strongly condemned the government's action against a school in Shopian, terming it a "flagrant injustice" to the underprivileged sections of society. She alleged that the move was driven by prejudice and ill intent.
Allegations of Bias
In a statement, Mufti said that banning such "altruistic institutions" without any concrete evidence of anti-national activity "shows a deep seated prejudice and ill intention." She emphasized that the school had been serving the underprivileged community and that the action would deprive many children of education.
Government's Stand
The government had earlier taken action against the school, citing alleged violations. However, Mufti argued that the lack of solid evidence pointed to a biased approach. She urged the authorities to reconsider their decision and allow the school to continue its operations.
Mufti's remarks have sparked a debate on the treatment of educational institutions in the region, with many questioning the criteria used to label institutions as anti-national. The issue has also drawn attention to the challenges faced by underprivileged communities in accessing quality education.
