Tamil Nadu's Minister for Natural Resources, S Regupathy, has strongly defended the Tamil film Parasakthi. He spoke out against recent criticism from Congress party functionaries. The minister made his comments to reporters in Pudukkottai on Wednesday.
No Reason for Congress Opposition
Regupathy stated clearly that Congress functionaries have no valid reason to oppose the movie. He explained the film depicts historic events from the 1965 anti-Hindi agitation. According to the minister, these events should not be connected to the Congress party of today.
"The Congress of that time and the Congress of today are not the same," Regupathy emphasized. "This is a new Congress today, and there is no need for them to object to the film."
Congress Criticism of the Film
The movie Parasakthi released amidst ongoing debates about power sharing in Tamil Nadu. Its release sparked immediate criticism from Congress party members. Senior state vice-president Arun Baskar issued a formal statement. He alleged the film contains historical inaccuracies.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore expressed his disapproval on social media platform X. He declared he would not waste money watching the movie. Tagore also criticized the participation of Parasakthi crew members in recent Pongal celebrations.
Political Context and Reactions
The Pongal event was organized by Union Minister L Murugan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi served as chief guest for the celebration. Parasakthi crew members Sivakarthikeyan and Ravi Mohan attended the festivities.
Minister Regupathy dismissed speculation about tensions in the DMK-Congress alliance. He stated criticism from certain leaders of both parties represents personal opinions only. According to Regupathy, these opinions will not impact the alliance relationship.
Comments on Opposition and PM's Visit
Regupathy also addressed comments from AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami. He described Palaniswami's statements about new parties joining the opposition alliance as mere claims. The minister responded to questions about Prime Minister Modi's visits to Tamil Nadu.
Regupathy asserted these visits will not change electoral outcomes in the state. He maintained confidence in the current political landscape despite opposition movements and national leader visits.
