Mobile tower collapses in Gadag after heavy rain

A 100-feet-tall mobile tower, belonging to a private company and installed on a residential building, collapsed at Jagrut Circle in Mundargi town on Monday evening following strong winds and rain. The incident caused damage to several shops and motorcycles parked nearby.

Eyewitness Accounts

Eyewitnesses reported that the tower uprooted after heavy rains and gusty winds. "Many electric and telephone poles fell or broke after the tower crash. Power supply was interrupted for hours. Since there was no traffic movement due to the heavy rain and wind, no casualties were witnessed. If there had been traffic, it could have been a tragedy. It caused a traffic jam in the area," they stated.

Public Outrage

Residents expressed anger against the Town Municipal Council (TMC) for permitting the installation of a tower on a three-storey residential building. They demanded stricter regulations to prevent such incidents in the future.

Authorities Respond

TMC Chief Officer Siddharaju Kattimani, along with officials from the police, Hescom, and other departments, visited the spot and assured the public that the fallen tower would be removed soon. Authorities are investigating the structural integrity of the building and the tower's installation.

The incident highlights the risks posed by poorly regulated tower installations on residential buildings, especially during adverse weather conditions. No injuries were reported, but the damage to property and disruption of power supply have caused inconvenience to local residents.
