Modi Declares 'TMC Is Finished' After Record Turnout in Bengal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) during the first phase of voting in the state. Addressing a rally, Modi declared that the TMC's rule is over, stating, 'TMC is finished.' He praised the Election Commission of India for ensuring peaceful polling and highlighted the record voter turnout, which he interpreted as a sign of the people's desire for change.

Modi's Strong Words Against TMC

Modi accused the TMC of misgovernance, corruption, and appeasement politics. He claimed that voters in Bengal are tired of the TMC's 'goons and corruption' and are now driving a wave of change in the state. 'The people have decided to oust the TMC. The record turnout is a testament to their anger and their hope for a better future under the BJP,' Modi said.

EC Praised for Peaceful Conduct

The Prime Minister commended the Election Commission for its efforts in conducting free and fair elections, especially in areas that have witnessed political violence in the past. He noted that the peaceful voting process in Phase 1 reflects the EC's commitment to democratic values.

Record Turnout Signals Change

According to reports, Phase 1 of the West Bengal assembly elections recorded a significant voter turnout, with many polling stations seeing long queues from early morning. Modi pointed to this as evidence that the people are eager for a change in leadership. 'The high turnout shows that the people are voting for development, for security, and for dignity,' he added.

The TMC, however, dismissed Modi's claims, asserting that the turnout was due to the party's strong grassroots support and the popularity of Mamata Banerjee. TMC leaders accused the BJP of trying to polarize voters and create unrest.

Phase 1 covers several constituencies across the state, including some that have been historically volatile. The Election Commission has deployed additional security forces to ensure smooth polling. The results of this phase will be crucial in determining the overall outcome of the Bengal elections, which are being closely watched as a key political battle between the BJP and the TMC.
