Dindigul MP Applauds Secular Stance in Thirupurankundram, Slams Govt Policies
In a significant public address, Dindigul MP R Sachithanantham has praised the residents of Thirupurankundram for their steadfast commitment to secular harmony. He highlighted their rejection of extremist provocations during a recent contentious issue involving the lighting of the deepathoon, emphasizing how the community upheld peace and unity despite attempts to sow discord.
DYFI Meeting Marks Navjawan Bharat Sabha Centenary
The remarks were made at a public gathering organized by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) in Madurai on Sunday. This event was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Navjawan Bharat Sabha, drawing attention to historical legacies and contemporary political challenges. Sachithanantham was joined by Kerala MP AA Rahim, who delivered a sharp critique of current economic policies.
Critique of Privatization and Government Narratives
MP AA Rahim voiced strong concerns over the privatization of banks, stating that financial institutions are now "incentivised more by profit than care for people." Both leaders invoked the legacy of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh to challenge the current government's historical narrative, accusing it of wearing a "mask of patriotism" while undermining public welfare.
They condemned several key policies, including:
- The privatization of national assets such as railways and ports.
- The "contractualisation" of defense through schemes like Agni Veer.
- Exclusionary barriers created by the New Education Policy and NEET, which they argued limit access to education.
Call to Action for Youth and Secular Values
Sachithanantham urged the youth to mobilize for a secular, socialist India that guarantees permanent employment, dignity for labor, and the fundamental right to education for all citizens. He emphasized the need for collective action to preserve these values in the face of rising extremism.
Rahim echoed this sentiment, calling for continuous activism by DYFI and similar organizations. He warned against groups like the RSS, alleging they seek to harm religious sentiments across various communities, and stressed the importance of vigilance in protecting India's pluralistic fabric.
The meeting served as a platform for reaffirming commitments to social justice and democratic principles, with both MPs highlighting the ongoing struggles against privatization and exclusionary policies. Their speeches underscored a broader political discourse centered on equity, historical accountability, and the role of youth in shaping India's future.
