A fire broke out in a power supply distribution panel (DP) near Freedom Park in the Zero Mile area of Nagpur early Saturday, rapidly spreading through overhead wires and reducing a footpath vendor's goods to ashes.
According to initial information, a team of MahaMetro security personnel led by Sunil Shete was on night patrol duty, heading towards Dosar Vaishya Bhavan Metro Station, when they received an alert about a fire near Zero Mile Metro Station. Acting swiftly, Shete informed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation fire brigade.
Fire personnel rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames before they could spread further. Preliminary findings suggest that the blaze was triggered by a short circuit in the DP. Sparks from the panel reportedly fell onto materials kept below by a footpath vendor, including helmets, rexine covers, and other items, causing the fire to spread quickly.
No Injuries Reported
No injuries were reported in the incident. Officials are currently assessing the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
Quick Response Prevents Greater Damage
The prompt action by the MahaMetro security patrol and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation fire brigade helped contain the fire and prevent it from causing more widespread destruction. The incident highlights the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks for electrical infrastructure in public areas.
Authorities have urged residents and vendors to remain vigilant and report any potential electrical hazards immediately. Further investigation into the exact cause of the short circuit is underway.
