NEW DELHI: On the eve of its much-touted NEET protest, the newly minted online outfit Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is learnt to have approached the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) for coordination, even though the overture was not reciprocated by the latter.
Meeting Between CJP and IYC Leaders
Sources said a key CJP figure met IYC president Uday Bhanu Chib at the latter's office. While the details of their conversation are not known, IYC sources indicated that the online party may have felt the need to understand the dynamics of protest and seek organisational coordination to involve IYC volunteers. This would also help CJP gain broader acceptability among the masses.
IYC's Stance on Collaboration
When approached, Chib told TOI that IYC will not share the platform with any other outfit. He added that the IYC is holding its own protests over the "serious" issue across the country and is focused on seeking accountability from the Modi government. Congress strategists view CJP with scepticism, suspecting a political hand behind its sudden emergence, as reported by TOI.
Chib's Statement: “We welcome any organization that wants to highlight the issue which concerns the future of our youth. But our joining any other platform is ruled out.”
This development highlights the fragmented nature of student protests in India, with multiple groups attempting to coordinate but failing to find common ground. The CJP's outreach reflects its desire to gain legitimacy, while the IYC's refusal underscores its preference for independent action.
