Nitin Nabin Elected Unopposed as BJP National President
Forty-five-year-old Nitin Nabin made history on Monday. He was elected unopposed as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party. This makes him the youngest person ever to occupy this prestigious post. The BJP aims to expand its influence into new territories with this leadership change.
Nomination Process and Support
Nitin Nabin emerged as the sole candidate for the top party position. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior BJP leaders filed nomination papers in his support. K Laxman, the returning officer for the presidential election, made the official announcement.
"I hereby announce that only one name, that of Shri Nitin Nabin, has been proposed for the post of national president of Bharatiya Janata Party," Laxman stated in a formal declaration.
Party workers submitted a total of thirty-seven sets of nomination papers in favor of Nabin. All these papers underwent scrutiny and were found to be valid. The nomination process took place between 2 pm and 4 pm on Monday.
High-Profile Proposers and Attendees
Several prominent leaders backed Nitin Nabin's candidature. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the list of proposers. Other key figures included outgoing party chief J P Nadda and Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari.
The event saw attendance from many senior BJP members. Notable personalities present were:
- Outgoing president J P Nadda
- Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Kiren Rijiju
- Chief Ministers Yogi Adityanath, Nayab Saini, Pramod Sawant, Pema Khandu, and Pushkar Singh Dhami
State units of the party filed thirty-six sets of nomination papers. The BJP Parliamentary Party submitted the remaining one set.
Formal Declaration and Succession
Nitin Nabin will be formally declared as the BJP national president on Tuesday. He succeeds J P Nadda, who has led the party since 2020. Nadda's tenure saw significant organizational growth for the BJP.
The election process followed established party procedures. It began after the election of thirty state presidents out of thirty-six states. This number comfortably exceeded the required minimum of fifty percent of states.
Authorities announced the notification of the schedule of events on January 16, 2026. They also published the electoral roll on the same date.
Nitin Nabin's Political Journey
Nitin Nabin was born in 1980, the same year the BJP was founded. He entered politics in 2006 following the death of his father, Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha. His father served as a BJP MLA, creating a political legacy for the family.
Nabin has built an impressive political career in Bihar. He currently serves as a five-term MLA from the state. His ministerial responsibilities included law and justice, urban development, and housing in the Bihar government.
The BJP appointed him as working president on December 14, preceding this elevation. This move signaled his growing importance within the party hierarchy.
Nitin Nabin's election marks a generational shift in BJP leadership. His relatively young age brings fresh energy to the party's top position. Political observers will watch how he navigates his new responsibilities and expands the BJP's reach.
