BJP leader Nitin Nabin on Saturday held a crucial meeting with former presidents of the Uttar Pradesh BJP unit to discuss the party's electoral strategy for the upcoming state assembly elections. The meeting, which took place at the party's state headquarters in Lucknow, focused on consolidating the party's organizational structure and broadening its support base ahead of the 2027 polls.
Coalition Strengthening on Agenda
Leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Uttar Pradesh confirmed that a separate meeting with allied parties is scheduled for next week. According to sources, the gathering will aim to reinforce the coalition's unity, expand its grassroots network, and devise a roadmap to ensure the NDA's return to power in the state.
"The discussions were productive, and we are committed to working together to strengthen the alliance," said a senior NDA leader who attended the meeting on condition of anonymity. "Our focus is on building a robust organizational base and evolving a strategy that resonates with the people of Uttar Pradesh."
Key Figures Participate
Among the former BJP state presidents present were Vinay Katiyar, Laxmikant Bajpai, and Keshav Prasad Maurya, who is also the current deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. The meeting lasted nearly three hours, during which participants reviewed the party's performance in recent by-elections and local body polls.
Nitin Nabin, who is the BJP's national general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh, emphasized the need for booth-level strengthening and increased outreach to rural and urban voters. He also stressed the importance of leveraging the central government's welfare schemes to garner support.
NDA Allies Express Optimism
Allies such as the Apna Dal (Sonelal) and the Nishad Party have welcomed the initiative. Apna Dal president Anupriya Patel said, "The NDA is united under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. We are confident that with collective effort, we will win the 2027 elections with a strong mandate."
The BJP currently holds 255 seats in the 403-member Uttar Pradesh assembly, while the NDA's combined strength stands at 273. The main opposition Samajwadi Party has 111 seats. The next assembly election is due in early 2027, and both alliances have begun preparations.
Strategic Focus Areas
During the meeting, party leaders identified key regions where the BJP needs to improve its performance, particularly in eastern Uttar Pradesh and the Bundelkhand region. They also discussed countering opposition narratives on issues such as unemployment, inflation, and law and order.
A detailed action plan is expected to be finalized after the upcoming NDA meeting, which will include representatives from all allied parties. The coalition aims to project a unified front and avoid seat-sharing disputes that could weaken its prospects.
