Opposition Slams Centre Over Rs 29 Hike in Domestic LPG Cylinder Prices
Opposition Slams Centre Over LPG Price Hike

Opposition parties have strongly criticized the central government following a Rs 29 increase in the price of domestic LPG cylinders, accusing the Narendra Modi administration of exacerbating the financial strain on households already battling high inflation.

Revised LPG Prices in Delhi

The latest revision has raised the cost of a standard 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi from Rs 913 to Rs 942. This increase comes nearly three months after a Rs 60 hike was implemented in March, which was attributed to rising global energy prices stemming from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

AAP's Reaction

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) expressed its displeasure on social media, stating, "LPG cylinder prices have risen again. For the second time within three months, the domestic gas cylinder has been made more expensive. This time, after an increase of Rs 29, the 14.2-kg cylinder will cost Rs 942. Inflation has already broken the back of the common man, and now the Modi government is also kicking them in the stomach."

Congress's Response

Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav also took to X to voice his opposition, writing, "Another installment of recovery from 'Inflation Man Modi' has been released. The price of gas cylinders has been increased by Rs 29. The kitchen budget will now get even more messed up. The pocket of the common man will be cut further."

Background and Impact

The price hike marks the second increase in domestic LPG rates within a three-month period, adding to the financial woes of consumers. The government has faced criticism for not providing adequate relief measures to cushion the impact of rising energy costs on household budgets. The opposition parties have called for a rollback of the price increase and accused the government of prioritizing fiscal consolidation over the welfare of citizens.
