Pappu Yadav Defiantly Tears Bihar Women Commission Notice, Escalates Political Row

Patna: Already embroiled in a storm for his derogatory remarks targeting women in politics, Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, sparked further controversy on Wednesday. He openly declared to reporters that he had torn apart and discarded into a dustbin the official notice served to him by the Bihar State Women Commission (BSWC).

Mocking the Commission's Action

The BSWC had taken suo motu cognizance of Yadav's inflammatory statements and issued him a notice, demanding an explanation as to why his Lok Sabha membership should not be revoked. In a brazen act of defiance, Yadav mocked the commission's authority, stating, "Notice ko raddi ki tokari mein fenk diya," which translates to "I threw the notice into the dustbin." Elected as an Independent candidate from the Purnia Lok Sabha constituency, Yadav asserted that the Lok Sabha Speaker is his sole guardian, and he would only respond to notices originating from the Speaker's office.

Questioning the Commission's Role in Bihar Crimes

Taking a sharp dig at the BSWC, Yadav further questioned the efficacy and actions of the women's rights body in addressing numerous incidents of sexual assault reported across Bihar in recent months. He highlighted specific cases, including the rape and murder of a NEET student in Patna, an attempted rape in full public view in Nalanda, and multiple sexual assault incidents in districts like Muzaffarpur and Purnia. "What has the BSWC done in those cases?" Yadav challenged, defending his earlier remarks by claiming he merely cited reports from the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch regarding the status of women in politics, without naming any individuals.

Political Backlash and Condemnation

Yadav's actions and statements drew immediate and bitter reactions from political quarters. Mokama heavyweight leader and JD(U) MLA Anant Singh launched a scathing attack, accusing Yadav of losing his sanity. Singh pointedly asked Yadav to first explain how his own wife, Ranjeet Ranjan, entered politics before making sweeping comments about the entire women community. "Pappu Yadav has gone mad. His wife is also a leader. He should first explain how his wife became the leader and then should pass comments on other women," Singh stated emphatically.

The Congress party also reacted sharply to the controversy. Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh, speaking to reporters in Patna, condemned Yadav's behavior, asserting that no one holds the right to make such derogatory remarks. "The people must refrain from passing such childish remarks," he emphasized, calling for greater respect and decorum in political discourse.

This incident underscores the escalating tensions in Bihar's political landscape, highlighting issues of gender sensitivity, institutional authority, and public accountability. As the debate intensifies, all eyes are on how parliamentary and state bodies will respond to Yadav's provocative actions and whether further disciplinary measures will be pursued.
