Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on his third visit to Assam since December, with a packed agenda that blends political strategy with developmental milestones. The visit, scheduled for February 14, will see the PM officially launch the Bharatiya Janata Party's campaign for the upcoming state assembly elections in March-April, while simultaneously inaugurating key infrastructure projects in Guwahati.
Multi-Faceted Agenda: From Politics to Public Welfare
During his visit, PM Modi will address a massive gathering of over 100,000 party workers, which includes more than 30,000 booth presidents, guardians, and beneficiaries of various state and central government schemes. This event is designed to energize the party cadre ahead of the crucial electoral battle.
Infrastructure and Educational Boost
Beyond politics, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the temporary campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Guwahati, marking a significant step in enhancing higher education facilities in the northeastern region. Additionally, he will hand over 100 electric buses to the state government, promoting sustainable public transportation.
A major highlight of the visit will be the inauguration of the Kumar Bhaskarvarman Setu, a new bridge over the Brahmaputra River that connects Guwahati with North Guwahati. This infrastructure project is expected to improve connectivity and reduce travel time for residents.
BJP's Grassroots Campaign Strategy
In preparation for the elections, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma flagged off 75 video vans from the Veterinary College playground at Khanapara. These vans will travel across all 126 assembly constituencies, featuring electronic display boards to showcase information about governance and welfare initiatives. Each van will also include a suggestion box for citizens to submit their inputs for the party's manifesto.
BJP spokesperson Pranjal Kalita emphasized the party's people-centric approach, stating that every suggestion received will be treated as a guiding directive. The party has also opened a dedicated phone number to gather public feedback, underscoring its commitment to incorporating the hopes and aspirations of the people into its election agenda.
Infrastructure Achievements Under BJP Rule
Kalita highlighted the BJP government's infrastructure accomplishments, noting that six new bridges have been completed over the Brahmaputra in the last ten years since the party came to power in 2016.
