PM Modi Launches Scathing Attack on Congress in Assam Election Rallies
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a forceful critique of the Congress party on Monday during election rallies in Assam, accusing the opposition of aligning with Pakistan's narrative, engaging in widespread corruption, and neglecting development commitments. Speaking at a rally in Barpeta district, PM Modi contrasted his government's actions with those of the Congress, highlighting stark differences in national security and governance approaches.
National Security and Pakistan Allegations
PM Modi asserted that while his administration executed "Operation Sindoor" against terror camps in Pakistan, the Congress consistently echoed Pakistan's stance. He referenced the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2025 "Operation Sindoor" as instances where the opposition party allegedly parroted Pakistan's views. "This Pakistan connection always weighs heavily on the country, and we can never allow that," he emphasized, underscoring the perceived threat to national integrity.
Corruption and Governance Criticisms
The Prime Minister accused the Congress of adopting short-term governance strategies to facilitate corruption, contrasting this with the BJP's long-term vision for inclusive development. He specifically targeted the Congress leadership, labeling the party's first family as "the most corrupt in the country", involved in significant scams and currently out on bail. In a rebuttal to Rahul Gandhi's "mohabbat ki dukaan" (shop of love) comment, PM Modi described the Congress as representing "mithya ki dukaan" (shop of lies) and "apmaan" (insult).
Policy Achievements and Development Highlights
PM Modi outlined key policy successes, including the implementation of the One Rank, One Pension (OROP) scheme, with Rs 1.24 lakh-crore disbursed to former Army personnel. He noted agricultural improvements, such as the increase in minimum support price for paddy from Rs 1,300 per quintal in 2013 to Rs 2,370 currently, and highlighted direct benefit transfers to farmers. Additionally, he mentioned that Assam's 'Joha' rice is now being exported to European countries, showcasing economic progress under BJP rule.
Global and Local Economic Concerns
At a rally in Hojai, PM Modi addressed global economic challenges, cautioning voters about the Congress's handling of fuel prices. He stated that despite global crises, petrol and diesel prices have been stabilized nationally, but criticized Congress-led Himachal Pradesh for price hikes. "This means that before elections this royal family talks about relief to the people, but after elections they put the people into difficulty," he warned, urging Assam residents to remain vigilant.
Referring to the Middle East crisis, PM Modi assured that the BJP government is working to protect citizens from its impacts, prioritizing that the burden does not fall on the poor, middle class, and farmers.
Infiltration and Identity Issues
PM Modi linked infiltration to livelihood, identity, and security concerns, stating that the BJP-NDA alliance is striving to protect Assam from population imbalance. "Every vote given to BJP will help keep infiltrators away and protect Assam's identity," he asserted, framing the election as crucial for regional stability.
Polling for all 126 assembly constituencies in Assam is scheduled for April 9 in a single phase, with counting set for May 4. The Prime Minister's rallies emphasized the need to maintain peace and development under BJP governance by keeping the Congress out of power.
