PM Modi Commits to Bihar Development in Purnia Meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed his strong commitment to developing Bihar during a brief meeting at Purnia airport on Saturday. State Industries and RCD Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal shared details of their conversation with this newspaper.

Meeting During Transit

Jaiswal met the Prime Minister while Modi was transiting through Purnia airport en route to Malda in West Bengal. The minister spoke to reporters over the phone from Purnia, describing the interaction as productive and forward-looking.

"I congratulated Prime Minister Modi on the BJP's impressive victory in the Maharashtra municipal elections," Jaiswal stated. "The Prime Minister then inquired about ongoing development works in Bihar and expressed his firm commitment to taking the state to new heights."

Focus on Bihar's Progress

Jaiswal, who previously served as Bihar BJP president during the assembly elections that brought the NDA to power with a landslide victory, informed the Prime Minister about Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's dedicated efforts for the state's all-round development.

The discussion between Modi and Jaiswal covered several critical areas for Bihar's growth:

  • Industrial potential and new investment opportunities
  • Expansion of the road network across the state
  • Plans to strengthen infrastructure development
  • Overall economic progress strategies

Delhi Visit for BJP Presidential Nomination

Jaiswal also revealed that he, along with top BJP leaders from Bihar, will travel to Delhi on Sunday. Their purpose is to support the nomination of Bankipore MLA Nitin Nabin for the position of BJP national president.

"Nitin ji will have 20 proposers from each state in his nomination papers," Jaiswal explained. "The papers will be filed on January 19 for the BJP national president post."

Both Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi, will also be in Delhi for the next two days to participate in the nomination process.

Expected Unopposed Election

The five-time Bihar MLA Nitin Nabin is likely to be elected unopposed as the next BJP national president. At 45 years old, he would become the youngest person to hold this significant position in the party's history.

Nabin was declared the party's working president on December 14, 2025, setting the stage for his elevation to the top organizational role.

Election Process Details

According to a notification issued by BJP's national returning officer K Laxman on Friday, the nomination papers for the party president's post will be formally filed on January 19. Laxman clarified the election timeline:

  1. Nomination filing on January 19
  2. Voting, if necessary, on January 20
