PM Modi Praises Suvendu Adhikari for Deep Connection with People
PM Modi Lauds Suvendu Adhikari's People Connect

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, for his deep connection with the people and his understanding of their aspirations from close quarters. Speaking at a public rally in West Bengal's Haldia, Modi highlighted Adhikari's grassroots leadership and his ability to resonate with the common man.

Modi's Praise for Suvendu Adhikari

The Prime Minister said, "Suvendu has remained deeply connected to the people and understood their aspirations from close quarters. He has always worked for the development of the region and has been a strong voice for the people of West Bengal." Modi's remarks come amid the ongoing political tussle between the BJP and the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state.

Adhikari's Role in Bengal Politics

Suvendu Adhikari, a former Trinamool Congress leader who joined the BJP in 2020, has been a prominent figure in West Bengal politics. He played a key role in the BJP's campaign during the 2021 assembly elections and has since been vocal about the alleged misgovernance of the Mamata Banerjee government. Modi's endorsement is seen as a boost for Adhikari ahead of the upcoming local body elections.

Development Agenda in Haldia

During the rally, Modi also focused on the development agenda, accusing the state government of neglecting industrial growth in the Haldia region. He promised that the BJP, if voted to power, would transform Haldia into a major industrial hub. "The people of Haldia have suffered due to the inefficiency of the state government. We will ensure that this region gets its due share of development," Modi said.

Political Reactions

The Trinamool Congress criticized Modi's remarks, calling them an attempt to divide the people of West Bengal. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, "The Prime Minister is trying to create a rift between communities. The people of Bengal are united and will reject the BJP's divisive politics." However, BJP leaders welcomed Modi's praise for Adhikari, stating that it reflects the party's confidence in his leadership.

The rally in Haldia was part of Modi's two-day visit to West Bengal, where he also inaugurated several development projects. The visit is seen as a strategy to strengthen the BJP's base in the state ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
