In a landmark event for the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to ceremonially hoist a saffron flag atop the revered Ram Temple in Ayodhya on Tuesday. This significant act will formally mark the completion of the temple, coming twenty-two months after the Prime Minister presided over the consecration ceremony of the Ram Lalla idol.
The Auspicious Ceremony and Its Symbolism
The 'dhawajarohan' or flag-hoisting ceremony is scheduled for the Panchami date of Shukla Paksha in the month of Margashirsha. This day holds profound religious significance as it coincides with the Abhijit Muhurat of Shri Ram and Maa Sita's Vivah Panchami, a celebration symbolizing their divine union. According to a release from the PMO, the programme is deeply rooted in this sacred symbolism.
The flag itself is a powerful emblem. It is a right-angled, saffron-coloured flag measuring 10 feet in height and 20 feet in length. Its design features a radiant Sun with the sacred syllable 'Om' inscribed upon it, accompanied by an image of the Kovidara tree.
PM Modi's Spiritual Itinerary and Distinguished Guests
Prime Minister Modi's visit will encompass a spiritual journey through Ayodhya's sacred sites. As per the PMO release, his itinerary includes a visit to the Saptmandir, a complex housing temples dedicated to seven revered figures: Maharshi Vashishtha, Maharshi Vishwamitra, Maharshi Agastya, Maharshi Valmiki, Devi Ahilya, Nishadraj Guha, and Mata Shabari. This will be followed by a visit to the Sheshavtar Mandir.
The historic ceremony will be attended by a host of dignitaries, including RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, UP governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The guest list has been curated to reflect a broad cross-section of society. Ram temple trust general secretary Champat Rai stated that 6,000 individuals from the middle and lower middle class from Purvanchal and the Awadh region have been invited.
An additional 900 invitees are those who have been involved with the temple's construction in various capacities, along with select guests who made magnanimous donations. A senior functionary associated with the event emphasized the inclusive nature of the gathering, noting that a large number of people from backward classes and scheduled castes have been invited to ensure fair representation, and that individuals from minority communities will also be in attendance.
Ayodhya's Festive Transformation
On the eve of this momentous occasion, the temple town of Ayodhya has been transformed, wearing a distinctly festive look. Dignitaries and devotees from across the country have descended upon the city to witness this historic milestone, which represents the culmination of a long-standing spiritual and cultural aspiration for millions.
