PM Modi to Launch Kurukshetra Elevated Rail Track on July 17

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate the much-awaited elevated railway track and elevated railway station in Kurukshetra on July 17, 2026. The Rs 447-crore project aims to eliminate five busy railway crossings, significantly easing congestion across the city.

Project Details and Timeline

The railway will conduct a trial of the track on July 9, ahead of the virtual inauguration by the Prime Minister from Jind. The elevated track spans approximately 5.9 km and was approved by the Central Government in 2019, with the foundation stone laid the same year. The project has been constructed on 213 pillars, and an elevated station, Thanesar City, has also been built.

The Haryana government contributed Rs 206 crore to the project, with the remaining share provided by the railways. The track will eliminate five railway crossings at Main Bazaar, Jhansa Road, near Birla Mandir, near LNJP Hospital, and near the third gate of Kurukshetra University. Previously, the existing railway track divided the city, and all five gates closed whenever a train passed through the Kurukshetra-Narwana section, causing inconvenience and traffic jams.

Official Statements and Preparations

Former Minister of State Subhash Sudha confirmed the project's completion, stating, "Construction of the elevated track was our dream project. A hassle-free movement of vehicles in the town has been a long pending demand of residents. The BJP will celebrate the inauguration as it was a big project." He added that the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for a Sikh museum to be constructed at Umri village at a cost of Rs 124 crore.

Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena held a meeting with officials to finalize preparations for the inauguration. While the PM will virtually inaugurate the project, an event will be held at Kurukshetra University. The DC assigned duties to officials and directed them to complete the work within the stipulated time frame.

Impact on City and Commuters

The elevated track is expected to provide significant relief to commuters by eliminating traffic jams caused by the five railway crossings. It will also contribute to the beautification of the city. Officials noted that the project addresses a long-standing demand of residents for hassle-free vehicle movement. A team of railway officials is expected to visit the station and track on July 8 to inspect the final touches and beautification work.
