Prashant Kishor to Contest Bihar Bypoll from BJP Chief's Turf

Prashant Kishor, the political strategist-turned-activist, is set to make his electoral debut from the Tarari Assembly seat in Bihar, a constituency currently represented by Bihar BJP chief Nitin Nabin. The by-election for this Patna district seat will be held on July 30, with votes counted and results declared on August 3.

Electoral Debut on BJP Chief's Turf

Kishor, who founded the Jan Suraaj Party earlier this year, will contest from Tarari, which Nabin has held since 2020. The bypoll was necessitated after Nabin vacated the seat following his election as MLC. This contest is seen as a direct clash between Kishor's fledgling outfit and the ruling NDA alliance, which includes the BJP and JD(U).

Campaign Strategy and Key Issues

Kishor has been campaigning aggressively on issues of employment, education, and healthcare, aiming to break the traditional bipolar politics of Bihar. According to sources close to Kishor, his campaign will focus on local development and governance failures. "The people of Tarari deserve better roads, schools, and jobs. This bypoll is a chance to send a message," Kishor said at a recent rally.

Political Significance

The bypoll is being closely watched as a test of Kishor's grassroots appeal against established parties. Nitin Nabin, a prominent OBC leader, has been a key figure in the BJP's Bihar unit. The bypoll also comes ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, making it a litmus test for both the Jan Suraaj Party and the NDA's strength in the region.
