Bhubaneswar: For the first time, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will jointly attend an event in Odisha to celebrate the two-year anniversary of the Mohan Charan Majhi-led BJP government in the state. According to a government official, on June 20, President Murmu and PM Modi are scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of several significant projects for Odisha at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district.
Preparations for the Event
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who will complete two years in office on June 12, chaired a high-level preparatory meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan to ensure the successful implementation of the anniversary programme. The meeting culminated in plans for a mega public meeting where the President and Prime Minister will address the gathering.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure robust security arrangements at the venue, adequate facilities for the general public attending the meeting, and sufficient parking arrangements. Given that both President Murmu and PM Modi will attend the programme, the CM emphasized the need for smooth organization and instructed officials to pay special attention to these aspects.
Projects and Inaugurations
Mayurbhanj MP Naba Charan Majhi stated that the President will be on a two-day visit to Rairangpur, her hometown, starting June 19, while the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit on June 20. Sources indicate that they will inaugurate a stadium in Rairangpur and projects for Pahadpur, the village of Murmu's in-laws, along with several other projects for the state. The dignitaries will also flag off the new Puri-Koraput train via Sambalpur and inaugurate several upgraded railway stations as Amritbharat stations in different parts of Odisha.
Following the Odisha event, PM Modi will fly to Kolkata to lead the flagship national celebrations for International Yoga Day on June 21, while President Murmu is likely to return to Delhi.
Previous Visits
It is noteworthy that the Prime Minister had also attended the Majhi government's first anniversary celebration in Bhubaneswar on June 20 last year, inaugurating and laying foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 18,600 crore. This will be Modi's eighth visit to Odisha in two years, and his first this year since the BJP formed the government in the state.
