Punjab BJP chief flags off Panch Teerth Yatra to Ambedkar sites

Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Sunday flagged off three Volvo buses carrying devotees on the ‘Panch Teerth Yatra' linked to Dr B R Ambedkar.

Dhillon said the pilgrimage would allow participants to visit historic sites associated with Ambedkar's life that have been developed under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

He said the yatra — scheduled from June 14 to June 21 — would cover five key sites linked to Dr B R Ambedkar's life and legacy — Mhow (birthplace), Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai, Mahaparinirvan Sthal in Delhi and Virtual Shiksha Bhoomi (London), which has been established in Delhi.

He added, "The BJP govt has spent approximately Rs 2,000 crore on the development and preservation of these memorials to ensure that future generations continue to draw inspiration from Babasaheb's thoughts, ideals, and contributions."

Punjab BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha president S R Ladhar said nearly 150 devotees would undertake the ‘pilgrimage'.

He added, "The primary objective of the yatra is to make Dr Ambedkar's message reach every section of society and express the nation's gratitude towards him."
