Punjab Minister Honours 509 Meritorious Students

Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO on Wednesday honoured 509 students from the Jandiala Guru constituency who secured more than 90 per cent marks in the Class X and XII board examinations. The special function was held to recognise academic excellence and encourage students to continue striving for success.

Rising Number of High Achievers

Congratulating the students, the minister described them as the future of the constituency, the state and the country. He said the increasing number of high achievers reflected the improving standard of education at government schools in the area.

Harbhajan Singh ETO highlighted the consistent growth in academic performance: 175 students scoring more than 80 per cent were honoured in 2023. The number of students securing over 90 per cent rose to 250 in 2024, 452 in 2025 and reached 509 this year. “It is a matter of immense pride for the students, their parents and their teachers that the number of meritorious students is increasing every year,” he said.

Focus on Government Schools

Since becoming an MLA and later a Cabinet Minister, Harbhajan Singh ETO said he had focused on strengthening basic infrastructure and facilities in all 163 government schools in the Jandiala Guru constituency. He attributed the consistent rise in academic excellence to the improved performance of these schools.

The minister noted that 20 of the 509 students honoured this year were girls from the School of Eminence, Jandiala Guru. He said this achievement was particularly encouraging and showcased the potential of students from government institutions.

New Polytechnic College Announced

Announcing a new educational initiative, Harbhajan Singh ETO said the Punjab Government was constructing a Government Polytechnic College at Jandiala Guru, which was expected to become operational from next year. This college will provide vocational training and further educational opportunities for students in the region.

During the event, the minister interacted with the students and shared his own journey as a student of a government school, encouraging them to remain focused on their goals. He emphasised that hard work and dedication were key to achieving success.

Officials Encourage Students

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Pallavi Mishra also addressed the gathering. She urged students to achieve success through hard work, discipline and determination. She said there was no substitute for perseverance and that only those who remained committed to their goals could achieve success in life.

The event was attended by parents, teachers and local dignitaries who applauded the students' achievements. The minister's recognition of academic excellence is part of ongoing efforts to boost educational outcomes in the constituency.
