Rahul Gandhi Attacks Mamata Banerjee, Says She Works for TMC Goons

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government headed by Mamata Banerjee, alleging that it is not effectively challenging the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal. Addressing a rally in Hooghly, he claimed that this has allowed the BJP to make political gains in the state.

Allegations Against TMC Government

Gandhi accused the TMC of working for the benefit of its own goons rather than the people of West Bengal. He stated, "Mamata Banerjee works for the goons of TMC, not for the common citizens." The Congress leader also raised concerns over women's safety, citing the infamous RG Kar Medical College case, where a woman was allegedly assaulted, as an example of the deteriorating law and order situation under the TMC rule.

Call for Stronger Opposition

Gandhi argued that the Congress is the only party capable of taking on the BJP nationally. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi recognizes the Congress as a key challenger, unlike the TMC which he said has failed to mount a credible opposition. "The BJP is gaining ground in Bengal because the TMC is not fighting them effectively. Only Congress can defeat the BJP," Gandhi asserted.

The rally in Hooghly was part of the Congress's campaign for the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal. Gandhi's remarks come amid a heated political battle between the TMC and the BJP, with the Congress trying to position itself as a third alternative.
