Training Program Details
The training sessions run from January 13 to January 22. A total of 33 district presidents from Haryana and 27 from Uttarakhand are participating. The program focuses on building a stronger party structure at the grassroots level.
Hooda's Remarks on Key Issues
Haryana Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced Rahul Gandhi's visit on Sunday. Hooda highlighted several pressing issues during his address to the Haryana district presidents. He emphasized unemployment, organized crime, and drug abuse as major concerns. Migration problems and alleged neglect of farmers also featured prominently in his speech.
Hooda accused the BJP-led state government of failing to deliver on its promises. He claimed the government neglected development in Haryana over the past eleven years. According to Hooda, the state's debt surged from ₹60,000 crore accumulated between 1966 and 2014 to more than ₹5 lakh crore in just eleven years.
Specific Allegations Against the Government
Hooda pointed out that the BJP government did not establish any new medical colleges, major industries, or universities. He noted the absence of new railway lines, metro lines, or IITs during this period. Hooda also criticized the government for not attracting significant investment to the state.
Regarding farmers, Hooda referenced the BJP's promise to double their income by 2022. He argued that instead of raising earnings, the government only increased costs. Hooda further alleged that the government betrayed women under the Ladli Lakshmi Yojana. He stated that the BJP promised ₹2,100 per month to all women during elections but now restricts the scheme to a limited group.
Concerns Over Crime and Media Freedom
Hooda expressed worry about criminal networks flourishing unchecked in Haryana. He mentioned that more than 80 gangs are currently active, leaving ordinary citizens in a state of insecurity. Hooda also commented on the Punjab Kesari Group's claim of a targeted witch-hunt by the Punjab government.
He voiced concern over attempts to intimidate a respected media institution through official agencies. Hooda asserted that the media serves as the fourth pillar of democracy. Any move to silence independent journalism undermines the democratic framework, he emphasized.
The Congress training program aims to equip district presidents with strategies to address these issues effectively. Rahul Gandhi's address on January 21 is expected to provide further guidance and motivation to the party workers.
