Rahul Gandhi Attacks Government Over Noida Techie's Death
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp criticism against the government on Tuesday. He used the term "TINA" to highlight accountability failures after a tragic incident in Greater Noida.
The Tragic Incident in Greater Noida
A 27-year-old engineer named Yuvraj Mehta lost his life in a horrific accident. His car skidded off the road late on Friday night amid dense fog conditions. The vehicle plunged into a water-filled pit that was over twenty feet deep in Sector 150 of Greater Noida.
Mehta's family members have made serious allegations about the accident site. They claim the location was known to be dangerous and accident-prone. The family says they repeatedly requested authorities to install proper safety measures like barricades and reflectors. They argue that officials ignored these pleas, which directly led to the tragedy.
Rahul Gandhi's 'TINA' Criticism
Rahul Gandhi took to social media platform X to express his views about the incident. He posted a message that has since gained significant attention. In his post, Gandhi stated clearly that India's urban problems are not about financial constraints or technological limitations.
The Congress leader emphasized that the real issue is accountability. He introduced the acronym TINA, which stands for "There Is No Accountability." Gandhi argued that such preventable accidents occur not because solutions don't exist, but because responsible parties fail to take necessary actions.
His complete post read: "India's urban collapse isn't about lack of money, technology, or solutions. It's about lack of accountability. TINA: There Is No Accountability."
Official Response and Investigation
Following the tragic death, authorities have taken several actions. Police have filed a First Information Report against two real estate developers in connection with the incident. The Uttar Pradesh government has made significant administrative changes in response.
Noida CEO Lokesh M has been removed from his position. The state government has established a Special Investigation Team to conduct a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Mehta's death. This SIT has received clear instructions to complete its investigation promptly.
The investigation team will be led by Additional Director General Bhanu Bhaskar from the Meerut Zone. Other members include Divisional Commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami and the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department. The team must submit its findings to the Chief Minister within five days.
Family's Allegations and Rescue Efforts
Mehta's father has made disturbing claims about the rescue operation. He alleges that police and other agencies delayed their response when trying to save his son. According to the grieving father, his son was still alive and calling for help when police first arrived at the scene.
The father claims that police personnel present did not know how to swim, which hampered rescue efforts. Mehta himself could not swim but managed to stay afloat temporarily by holding onto his car. Witnesses report he eventually went underwater while still crying for assistance.
A senior police officer later addressed the swimming issue. The officer explained that swimming skills are not a mandatory requirement for police personnel. This statement has sparked further discussion about emergency preparedness and training standards.
The tragic death of Yuvraj Mehta has raised important questions about urban safety standards. It has also highlighted concerns about accountability mechanisms in India's rapidly developing cities. The incident continues to generate public discussion about infrastructure safety and governmental responsibility.
