Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and K C Venugopal have launched a sharp attack on senior RSS leader Ram Madhav over his recent remarks, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of compromising India's sovereignty to the United States.
Rahul Gandhi's Reaction
Taking to social media, Rahul Gandhi posted: "Rashtriya Surrender Sangh. Farzi nationalism in Nagpur. Pure servility in USA. Ram Madhav has only revealed Sangh's true nature." He further alleged that the RSS has exposed its real character through Madhav's statements.
Venugopal's Criticism
Congress leader K C Venugopal also weighed in, stating: "Clear admission by a senior RSS leader - PM Modi is dancing to Washington's tunes. There was once a time when the US' 7th Fleet was in the Bay of Bengal, and India didn't budge. And then there is today, where a Compromised PM has handed over India's sovereignty to the US."
Background
The controversy stems from remarks made by Ram Madhav, a prominent RSS functionary, which the opposition interprets as an acknowledgment that the Modi government is subservient to American interests. The Congress leaders contrasted this with India's historical stance of strategic autonomy, particularly during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War when the US dispatched its 7th Fleet to the Bay of Bengal, and India refused to be intimidated.
The exchange highlights the ongoing political battle over foreign policy and national sovereignty, with the opposition accusing the Modi government of compromising India's independent stance in international affairs.
