A letter bearing the purported signatures of 19 rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs has surfaced, reportedly addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The letter, dated May 18, includes names such as Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Satabdi Roy, Yusuf Pathan, and Saayoni Ghosh.
Party Dismisses Letter as Fake
Sources from Mamata Banerjee's office have dismissed the letter as fake and accused the BJP of orchestrating it. They stated that the BJP can go to any extent to weaken the TMC.
Details of the Letter
According to news agencies, the letter features signatures of 19 out of 20 TMC MPs. Notably, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar is listed as Chief Whip, despite Mamata Banerjee having replaced her with Kalyan Banerjee as the party's Lok Sabha Chief Whip. Banerjee had informed the Lok Sabha Speaker about this change on May 20.
The other rebel MPs who reportedly signed the letter include Bapi Haldar, Sharmila Sarkar, Prasun Bandyopadhyay, Jagadish Barma Basunia, Asit Kumar Mal, Arup Chakraborty, Rachna Banerjee, Khalilur Rahaman, Abu Taher Khan, Mitali Bag, Mala Roy, Kalipada Soren, Deepak Adhikari, June Malia, and Partha Bhowmick.
TMC Posters Removed from Rebel MP's Residence
TMC posters have been removed from Partha Bhowmick's official residence, one of the rebel MPs. Sources said the party had been using Bhowmick's residence as its office but has now moved to the South Avenue address, which has completed renovation.
Additional Troubles for TMC
Three Rajya Sabha members—Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Sushmita Dev, and Prashant Chik Baraik—have already resigned from the Upper House. Adding to the party's woes, Mamata Banerjee loyalist Kalyan Banerjee has asked the former West Bengal Chief Minister to choose between him and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, blaming the latter for the party's destruction.
