Trinamool Office Raided: Relief Materials, Oxygen Cylinders Seized in Kolkata
Relief Materials Seized from Trinamool Office in Kolkata

A major political controversy erupted on Friday in Kolkata's southern fringes after a large cache of government-marked disaster relief materials and public distribution supplies was allegedly discovered illegally stockpiled inside a local Trinamool Congress office in the Panchasayar area. The premises are at the center of a bitter territorial dispute between the Trinamool Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM).

Seized Items Include Oxygen Cylinders and KMC-Stamped Goods

According to police sources, the seized items include a substantial number of oxygen cylinders, domestic stoves, tarpaulins, heavy-duty relief tents, and official civic infrastructure buckets stamped with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) insignia. Additionally, a bundle of official administrative documents was recovered from the site, raising further questions about the misuse of government property.

How the Hoard Was Discovered

The flashpoint occurred earlier this week when local CPM cadres reportedly marched to the property to reclaim it. Party sources stated that the office had served as a CPM base until 2019, before Trinamool workers allegedly seized control during subsequent election cycles. Upon reopening the long-locked facility, the Left workers discovered the relief materials stacked floor-to-ceiling, prompting them to alert neighbors and the police. As news of the discovery spread, a large crowd of locals gathered at the spot, leading to tension and shouting matches between rival party workers. A heavy police deployment from Panchasayar Police Station arrived shortly after to stabilize the area and seize the state property.

Political Reactions and Demands for Investigation

Both the local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and CPM launched scathing attacks on the Trinamool Congress, alleging that the recovery exposes institutional corruption where public distribution goods meant for impoverished citizens and natural disaster victims were systematically siphoned. Locals demanded an immediate, transparent investigation into how restricted municipal property wound up inside an active party office. Local Trinamool representatives dismissed the claims, calling them politically motivated.
