The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with great fervor and patriotic spirit across the districts of Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, and Tirupur on Monday. The day was marked by traditional flag hoisting ceremonies, distribution of police medals, and vibrant cultural programmes organized by students from various educational institutions.

Coimbatore District Celebrates with Honors and Tributes

In Coimbatore, the main event took place at the VOC Ground where collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar unfurled the national tricolour. He accepted a guard of honour presented by a combined contingent of police personnel, fire and safety officials, home guards, the National Cadet Corps, the Red Cross Society, and traffic wardens. The ceremony included the symbolic release of doves and tricolour balloons, adding a poignant touch to the celebrations.

Recognition for Excellence and Sacrifice

The collector presented awards to 122 police personnel and 191 government officials, including doctors, for their outstanding performance and dedication in their respective fields. A special tribute was paid to the descendants of freedom fighters, honoring their legacy and contributions to the nation's independence.

In a moving gesture, the family of nine-year-old Vyoma Priya was honored. She had sacrificed her life while attempting to save four-year-old Jiyans Reddy during a fatal electrocution incident near Saravanampatti in 2024. Vyoma Priya was posthumously awarded the Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar, and her bravery was remembered during the Republic Day event.

Cultural Extravaganza by Students

Students from various schools showcased the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu through traditional folk dances. The performances included Vallikummi, Karagam, Oyilattam, Mayilattam, and Puliyattam, captivating the audience and adding a festive atmosphere to the solemn occasion.

Additional Ceremonies Across Coimbatore

Separate flag hoisting ceremonies were held at key locations in Coimbatore. Coimbatore corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran unfurled the flag at the corporation office, while city police commissioner N Kannan conducted the ceremony at the commissioner's office campus. At Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, vice-chancellor (in-charge) K Subrahmaniyan presided over the flag hoisting event.

Educational Institutions Join the Celebrations

Several educational institutions in and around Coimbatore organized their own Republic Day events. Sainik School Amaravathinagar, KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science, and Bharathiar University hosted various programmes, including parades, speeches, and cultural activities, to instill patriotic values among students.

Tirupur District Marks Republic Day with Welfare Initiatives

In Tirupur, district collector Manish Narnaware unfurled the national flag at the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu ground. Along with district superintendent of police Yadav Girish, he accepted the guard of honour from police and other security personnel.

The collector presented certificates to 295 government officials, including police personnel, in recognition of their service. Additionally, welfare assistance worth Rs 3.36 crore was distributed to beneficiaries, highlighting the government's commitment to social welfare and community support.

Nilgiris District Focuses on Welfare and Recognition

In the Nilgiris, district collector Lakshmi Bhavya led the Republic Day celebrations by unfurling the flag and accepting the guard of honour. She handed over welfare assistance worth Rs 1.35 crore to 26 beneficiaries, ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach the needy.

Appreciation certificates were presented to 163 government officials for their commendable work. The event also featured cultural programmes performed by school students, showcasing the district's artistic talent and patriotic enthusiasm.

The Republic Day celebrations across Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Tirupur districts not only honored the nation's constitutional values but also recognized the contributions of officials, remembered sacrifices, and promoted cultural unity through vibrant performances.
