Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and his son KT Rama Rao (KTR), labeling them 'financial terrorists' following the collapse of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. Reddy claimed the previous BRS government had left the state with a staggering debt burden of Rs 8.21 lakh crore.

Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad, Reddy stated that the Kaleshwaram project, touted as the world's largest multi-stage lift irrigation scheme, had collapsed due to gross negligence and corruption. He accused KCR and KTR of prioritizing personal gains over public welfare. 'They have systematically looted the state and pushed it into a financial abyss. The Kaleshwaram project collapse is a testament to their financial terrorism,' Reddy said.

Reddy highlighted that the debt burden of Rs 8.21 lakh crore was a result of reckless borrowing and mismanagement by the previous government. He said the state's fiscal health had deteriorated, with a significant portion of revenue being used to service loans. 'The people of Telangana are suffering because of their irresponsible actions,' he added.

Reacting to the allegations, BRS working president KT Rama Rao dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated. He accused Reddy of trying to divert attention from his own government's failures. 'The Kaleshwaram project was a visionary initiative that has been sabotaged by the current administration. Revanth Reddy is making false accusations to cover up his incompetence,' KTR said in a statement.

The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project was designed to provide water for irrigation and drinking purposes across Telangana.
