RSS Unveils Major Organizational Overhaul Ahead of 650th Ravidas Jayanti in Varanasi

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has announced ambitious plans to celebrate the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas in a grand manner, coinciding with Uttar Pradesh's election cycle in 2027. This significant religious and political milestone will be marked by a series of events organized by the RSS's highest decision-making body.

Organizational Restructuring: Kashi Unit Split

In a major structural change, the RSS has decided to divide its existing Kashi Prant (regional unit) into two separate Sambhags (divisions) – Kashi and Prayagraj. This decision was finalized during the three-day Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha held at Samalakha in Haryana.

The Kashi region unit currently encompasses 27 organizational districts from the Sangh's perspective, with approximately 3,000 shakhas (branches) operating across this area. This division is part of a broader national restructuring that will see 85 Sambhags established across India, replacing the current 46 Prant structure.

National Expansion and Growth Statistics

The RSS has demonstrated remarkable growth in its network over the past year. According to officials present at the Pratinidhi Sabha:

  • The organization operated 83,129 shakhas nationwide at last year's meeting
  • An additional 6,000 new shakhas have been established this year
  • The current national total now stands at 88,989 shakhas

Under the new organizational framework, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be collectively known as one Kshetra (zone), with the Kashi region being subdivided as part of this realignment.

Reverential Tribute to Sant Ravidas

RSS officials emphasized the spiritual significance of the upcoming celebrations. Murli Pal, Prant Karyavah of the RSS Kashi region unit, and Murarji Tripathi, Prant Prachar Pramukh, stated that the organization plans to pay reverential tribute to Sant Ravidas, who they described as having incarnated on the sacred land of Kashi.

The Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha has meticulously planned a comprehensive series of events to honor the 650th birth anniversary of the revered saint. These celebrations are strategically timed as Uttar Pradesh prepares for crucial electoral contests in 2027, potentially amplifying the RSS's cultural and organizational influence during the election period.

This dual approach of organizational restructuring combined with major religious celebrations represents a significant strategic move by the RSS as it positions itself for increased influence in one of India's most politically important states ahead of the 2027 elections.
