SAD Haryana seeks FIR against Punjab CM Mann over video

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Haryana on Saturday submitted a complaint to the Ambala police, demanding the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in connection with a controversial video that allegedly hurts Sikh religious sentiments.

Complaint Submitted to Ambala SP

Leading a delegation of community leaders, SAD Haryana state president Harkesh Singh Mohri met Ambala Superintendent of Police Ajit Singh Shekhawat and submitted the complaint. The party requested that an FIR be registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for hurting religious sentiments, disturbing social harmony, and affecting law and order.

Allegations of Derogatory Content

In its complaint, SAD stated that an alleged video purportedly showing Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is being widely circulated on social media. The party alleged that the video depicts highly objectionable and derogatory behaviour towards Sikh Gurus, deeply hurting the religious sentiments of Sikhs worldwide. Different groups have made varying claims about the video's authenticity and content.

According to the SAD, if the video is genuine and the allegations have been found true in a report conducted by the Akal Takht, the highest temporal authority of Sikhs, then this constitutes a serious act of hurting religious sentiments. The party demanded immediate legal action.

Akal Takht's Report Cited

SAD state president Harkesh Singh Mohri said, “An old video linked to Bhagwant Mann is being circulated on social media in which highly objectionable behaviour towards Sikh Gurus has been shown. The Akal Takht Jathedar had summoned the Punjab CM in this regard and he claimed that it was a fake video. The Akal Takht found the video to be genuine.”

Mohri further stated, “Since there is a Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab, no action has been taken against him there. The Sikh Sangat of Haryana had been seeking action and following their request, it was decided to submit a police complaint in Haryana.”

Police Assurance and Next Steps

Mohri added, “We have submitted a complaint to Superintendent of Police Ambala seeking registration of an FIR against him here. The SP has ensured that after considering the facts, appropriate action will be taken by the police. We will also meet Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to discuss the issue.”

The delegation emphasized that the video's circulation has caused widespread outrage among the Sikh community, and they expect swift action from the Haryana police to maintain communal harmony.
