SC Endorsement of SIR: BJP Says Congress Defeated

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday hailed the Supreme Court's endorsement of the Special Identity Register (SIR) of electoral rolls, asserting that the Congress party has suffered a "total defeat." The BJP targeted Rahul Gandhi for traveling to Car Nicobar and Vietnam during the elections and then blaming the Election Commission after his party's losses.

BJP Spokesperson's Statement

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said, "Opposition's efforts to cover up its political incompetence by tainting all democratic institutions today proved unsuccessful and ineffective on the floor of the Supreme Court." He specifically blamed Congress and Rahul Gandhi for stirring a controversy over the SIR.

Trivedi further stated that opposition parties, particularly Congress, had already suffered political defeat in the elections and moral defeat due to the absence of popular support for their attempt to trigger anarchy. "They have now suffered a constitutional defeat as well," he told reporters.

SC Verdict's Impact

According to Trivedi, the Supreme Court verdict has "destroyed" the very basis of opposition to the SIR exercise. He emphasized that the court's decision validates the BJP's stance on the matter.

Amid reports of suspected infiltrators leaving West Bengal for Bangladesh fearing a crackdown by the BJP government, Trivedi said this only reinforces the party's position. He pointed out that some of these individuals had admitted on camera to voting in previous polls.

"The true character of the opposition alliance has now been exposed - it is anti-Sanatan Dharma and protective of infiltrators," Trivedi added.

Political Reactions

The BJP's remarks come after the Supreme Court upheld the legality of the SIR, dismissing petitions challenging it. The opposition had criticized the SIR, claiming it could disenfranchise voters. However, the court found no merit in those arguments.

This development is seen as a major boost for the BJP ahead of upcoming elections, while the Congress faces renewed criticism over its electoral strategy and leadership.
