Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Sunday stated that both he and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will abide by the decision of the Congress high command regarding the leadership issue in the state. Speaking to reporters after returning from Delhi, Shivakumar said he would not speak on political issues before the media.
Shivakumar's statement on leadership
Addressing the media, Shivakumar said, "Siddaramaiah and I will abide by the Congress high command decision on the leadership issue. I have nothing more to add at this point." He further emphasized that he would refrain from discussing political matters in public forums, respecting the party's internal processes.
Background of the leadership issue
The leadership question in Karnataka has been a topic of speculation for months, with both Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah seen as potential contenders for the top post. The Congress high command is expected to make a final decision soon to ensure stability in the state government.
Shivakumar's remarks come amid growing pressure from party workers and allies to resolve the leadership tussle. The deputy CM's statement signals a willingness to accept the party's decision, which could pave the way for a smooth transition or continuation of the current leadership.
Reactions from political circles
Political analysts view Shivakumar's comments as a mature approach to internal party dynamics. By deferring to the high command, both leaders have demonstrated their commitment to party unity. The Congress party in Karnataka is keen to avoid any public discord that could affect its performance in upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have criticized the Congress for its internal conflicts, accusing the party of prioritizing power struggles over governance. However, Congress leaders have dismissed these allegations, stating that the party is fully focused on development and public welfare.
The high command is expected to announce its decision in the coming weeks, which will likely put an end to the speculation and allow the government to function without distractions.
