Sikligar, Vanjara Sikhs visit Golden Temple under SGPC outreach

A group of devotees from the Sikligar and Vanjara Sikh communities, hailing from Bengaluru, arrived at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Wednesday as part of a special outreach initiative supported by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The delegation, comprising approximately 100 pilgrims, was led by Jarnail Singh and organized by Gurdwara Singh Sabha Bengaluru in collaboration with the Karnataka Sikh Welfare Society.

Warm Welcome at the Golden Temple

The visiting jatha was received by SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami at the revered shrine. Dhami personally welcomed the devotees and assured them of the committee’s steadfast commitment to their welfare. He emphasized that the Sikligar and Vanjara communities are an integral part of the Sikh panth and that the SGPC is dedicated to preserving their religious and cultural identity.

Broader Initiative for Community Reconnection

This visit is part of a larger SGPC initiative aimed at reconnecting Sikligar and Vanjara Sikhs with their religious heritage. The committee has been facilitating visits to prominent gurdwaras across Punjab for members of these communities. In addition to these spiritual tours, the SGPC has also been supporting the education of children from these communities by covering their school fees, thereby addressing both spiritual and socio-economic needs.

He described the initiative as a meaningful step towards strengthening community ties and fostering a sense of belonging among the Sikligar and Vanjara Sikhs. Several SGPC members and officials were present during the reception, underscoring the committee’s active involvement in the outreach program.

Ongoing Efforts and Future Plans

The SGPC’s outreach to the Sikligar and Vanjara Sikhs is an ongoing effort, with plans to expand the initiative further. By facilitating such visits and providing educational support, the committee aims to ensure that these communities remain firmly connected to their Sikh roots and traditions. The current visit, which includes tours of various gurdwaras in Punjab, is expected to strengthen the cultural and religious bonds among all Sikhs.
