The JPC chairman made this statement on Tuesday as the panel embarked on a three-day visit to Gujarat to gather feedback and study the feasibility of the proposal.

The estimated savings of Rs 7 lakh crore would come from reduced expenditure on conducting separate elections, including costs related to security forces, electronic voting machines (EVMs), and administrative resources. The JPC chief emphasized that simultaneous polls would not only cut costs but also reduce the burden on government machinery and ensure uninterrupted governance.

The JPC's visit to Gujarat marks an important phase in its nationwide consultations.
