Somaiya Alleges Voter List Tampering with Bangladeshi Names

In a significant development, former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Kirit Somaiya held a crucial meeting with Chief Election Commissioner S Chokhalingam on Tuesday. During this high-level interaction, Somaiya asserted that he presented concrete evidence pointing to a widespread conspiracy aimed at illegally inserting the names of Bangladeshi citizens into the official voter lists.

Allegations of Systematic Voter List Manipulation

Following his meeting with the Election Commission, Somaiya addressed a detailed press conference at the BJP state headquarters in Mumbai. He made startling allegations, claiming that this fraudulent activity is not isolated but systematic, affecting at least 30 assembly constituencies across Maharashtra.

List of Affected Constituencies

The constituencies named by Somaiya include Dhule, Malegaon, Mumbra, Sambhajinagar East, Akola West, Amravati, Malvani Malad, Sillod, Bhiwandi, Raver, and Chikhli. According to his claims, the names of Bangladeshi nationals are being surreptitiously added to the voter rolls by submitting counterfeit documents, thereby compromising the integrity of the electoral process.

Evidence of Duplicate and Repeated Entries

Somaiya provided specific details to support his allegations. He stated that an initial investigation has uncovered approximately 20,000 duplicate names in just 10 of these assembly constituencies. Furthermore, he highlighted that in numerous instances, the same names have been repeated multiple times across different locations within the voter list, indicating a pattern of deliberate manipulation rather than accidental errors.

Link to Cancelled Birth Certificates

Adding another layer to his claims, Somaiya revealed that around three lakh (300,000) birth certificates have been recently cancelled by authorities. He emphasized a critical connection: since election cards were submitted as proof to obtain these now-cancelled birth certificates, it is imperative that the corresponding names be promptly removed from the voter lists to prevent fraudulent voting.

This situation raises serious concerns about electoral transparency and security. Somaiya's allegations underscore the need for rigorous verification processes and immediate corrective actions by the Election Commission to safeguard the democratic framework and ensure that only legitimate Indian citizens participate in the electoral process.
