Union Minister Sonowal Claims Rally Turnouts Reflect Public Mandate Against Congress in Assam
In a series of campaign events in Assam, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal launched a vigorous critique of the Congress party, asserting that the overwhelming public response at rallies signals a clear popular rejection of the opposition's politics and a firm endorsement for continued BJP-led governance in the state.
Campaign Rallies in Sadiya and Naharkatia Draw Large Crowds
Sonowal campaigned in support of BJP candidates Bolin Chetia in Sadiya and Taranga Gogoi in Naharkatia, addressing public meetings at Dangari under the Sadiya constituency and at Mahmora and Kamar Gaon under the Naharkatia legislative assembly constituency. He highlighted that the significant turnouts at each venue demonstrate the people's growing confidence in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and their resolve to move away from what he described as Congress's "legacy of underdevelopment."
Sonowal emphasized, "People have not forgotten how Congress kept regions like Sadiya neglected for decades. They have not forgotten how Congress imposed draconian laws like the Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunal) Act to deprive indigenous people of their rights, benefiting illegal immigrants. Today, the same people are coming out in large numbers to support development, stability, and accountable governance."
Voter Enthusiasm Reflects Mandate for Progress
The senior BJP leader argued that the groundswell of voter enthusiasm represents a clear and unambiguous mandate for progress and a repudiation of what he termed "outdated politics that failed to deliver even basic development" to the region's residents. "The people of Sadiya have taken a firm stand to defeat forces that ignored their aspirations for years. They want growth, infrastructure, and opportunities—not empty promises," he stated.
Sonowal also directly questioned Congress's credibility, alleging that decades of corruption, neglect, and divisive politics have rendered the party irrelevant in the eyes of voters across Assam.
Continued Dominance in Naharkatia
Shifting focus to Naharkatia, Sonowal maintained his offensive, describing the public support for the BJP alliance there as evidence that the NDA remains firmly dominant in the constituency. "The enthusiasm and support we are witnessing in Naharkatia clearly show that people have rejected Congress politics. The NDA's model of peace, unity, and development has gained widespread acceptance," he remarked.
Contrasting the NDA's governance record with what he portrayed as Congress's history of deliberate instability, Sonowal asserted that voters from all societal sections are backing the ruling alliance for its consistent delivery. "While Congress thrived on instability and uncertainty, the NDA has ensured peace and progress. The people of Assam have made up their mind to continue this journey of development," he added.
Call for Decisive Mandate
Concluding his campaign addresses, Sonowal issued a direct appeal to voters to deliver a decisive mandate for the BJP-led alliance, reinforcing his message of development and accountability over what he frames as Congress's failures.
