SP MP's Remarks Against PM Modi Spark Political Row

A political controversy erupted on Monday after Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ajendra Singh made inflammatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly condemned the comments and called on SP chief Akhilesh Yadav to take disciplinary action against the MP.

BJP Leaders Condemn Remarks

BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan described the comments as a 'disgraceful rant' that reflects the 'debased and diseased mindset' of the SP leadership. He questioned whether Akhilesh Yadav has the courage to act against Singh. Kesavan also shared a video in which Singh is heard using foul language against the prime minister and labeling him 'deshvirodhi' (anti-national).

Another BJP spokesperson, Gaurav Bhatia, echoed the condemnation, stating that the words used were so offensive that repeating them would be disrespectful to India's 140 crore citizens and Uttar Pradesh's 23 crore residents. He accused the Samajwadi Party of resorting to abuses and objectionable language at the behest of its leader.

Context of the Remarks

Singh's comments came in response to PM Modi's recent appeal to citizens to adopt lifestyle and consumption changes to help conserve foreign exchange and mitigate the economic impact of the West Asia conflict and global energy crisis. Speaking at an event in Secunderabad, the prime minister urged people to reduce fuel consumption, use public transport, and avoid unnecessary foreign travel. He emphasized the need for 'collective restraint' and a 'duty-first' approach amid rising energy prices and supply chain disruptions.

The BJP leaders accused Singh of misrepresenting the prime minister's patriotic call and using derogatory language. The party has demanded strong action from the Samajwadi Party leadership against the MP for his outburst.
