Bengaluru: A letter by assembly speaker UT Khader to home minister G Parameshwara seeking a review of cases linked to the 2022 Ladle Mashak Dargah violence has sparked a fresh political row.
Khader urged the government to examine the cases and consider withdrawing charges against what he described as innocent Muslim youth. He contended that several people were wrongly named in the FIRs and said action should be taken to drop charges against those falsely implicated.
The speaker's request has drawn sharp reactions from Hindu forums, including Shiv Sena, which warned the government against any move to dilute the cases. Functionaries of these groups said the incident involved serious violence and cautioned that withdrawing cases could trigger protests.
The controversy adds to the political tension in the state, with the ruling party facing pressure from both minority groups and right-wing organizations. The home minister has yet to respond publicly to the letter.
Observers note that the speaker's intervention is unusual, as it comes from a constitutional authority. The outcome of the review could have implications for communal harmony in the region.
