Stealth Frigate 'Mahendragiri' to Enter Navy on July 11

The Indian Navy is set to commission the indigenous stealth frigate 'Mahendragiri' on July 11, 2026, officials announced on Monday. Designed by the Navy’s Warship Design Bureau (WDB) and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai, the vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art weapon systems and sensors.

Advanced Weaponry and Sensors

According to a Navy spokesperson, 'Mahendragiri' is capable of undertaking anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine operations. It is also suited for maritime security, power projection, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), search and rescue, and sustained presence missions. The frigate features an advanced suite of indigenous weapons and sensors, including surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missile systems, sophisticated electronic warfare capabilities, comprehensive anti-submarine warfare systems, and an integrated combat management system.

Stealth and Propulsion

The frigate incorporates advanced stealth features, enhanced survivability, reduced radar signature, and a high degree of automation. It is powered by a modern combined diesel or gas (CODOG) propulsion system, enabling high-speed operations with exceptional endurance across the full spectrum of maritime missions.

Indigenous Content and Aatmanirbhar Bharat

With over 75% indigenous content, 'Mahendragiri' exemplifies the Government of India’s 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiative, the Navy stated. The commissioning ceremony is expected to be attended by senior naval officials and dignitaries.
